Hispanic-Serving Institution Graduate Student Opportunity
Title V, Part A, Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) Program at Lone Star College - Kingwood
Mi Familia, Mi Futuro, a program designed to improve postsecondary degree attainment of Hispanic, low-income, and other underserved students by reducing student and institutional barriers. Workshop topics will focus on college readiness, career exploration and assessment. The target population is Hispanic, low-income, or other underserved students at LSC-KW, especially students who speak Spanish. Graduate Students will conduct the Community and Workforce Need Assessments.
In Y1, in partnership with the DHSI PD and PAC, the Graduate Students will explore, select, and implement improved employer engagement strategies to plan and implement future work-and-learn pathways and curricula aligned to in-demand occupations.
Tasks include:
- Develop and conduct a comprehensive Community Workforce Need Assessment addressing skill gaps and attributes of a successful employee. The strategy provides the WWC evidence-based recommendation (linked to credit accumulation and industry recognized credential attainment): intentionally design and structure career pathways to enable students to further their education, secure a job, and advance employment. The need assessment will focus on alignment and other needs of regional industry. Upon completion, LSC-KW will identify strategies, steps, and timelines to address the identified weaknesses and ensure approaches to outreach, access, enrollment, onboarding, and student academic and support services are equity-based and meet the needs of the growing Hispanic community.
- The Graduate Students will prepare and present an analysis report to the PAC, LSC-KW President, and President Cabinet. The report will provide an analysis of Hispanic families, community stakeholders, ISD partners, and workforce needs, including workforce interest in forming an LSC-KW Employer Partnership Program (EPP).
Requirements: Must be bilingual (English and Spanish). Must be enrolled in a higher institution in the field of Education.
Compensation will be provided.
